How E-Scooters Can Win a Place in Urban Transport | BCG

London is among one of the cities in the world that face the biggest problems in the world, but electric scooter scheme as thought as the solution by one of the startup, only if it is in compliance with draconian vehicle laws of the UK.

Bird, the US company is all ready to introduce the first-ever scooter-hire service of the UK in its capital city, but for now, it has only got the permission to do it for a single path in the east London Olympic Park.

However, the trial is as well for a limited period, as said by Richard Corbett, head of Bird in the UK, “The United Kingdom is the highly restricted and regulated market segment for this sort of products.” The scooters that have 25Km/hr as the top speed cannot be able to use on paths as they are referred as powered vehicles, but they are not even eligible to use on roads, as they cannot fulfill the rules of an MOT.

But, the US-based company did manage to have some agreement for its launch on the private path from the Shopping center of Westfield Stratford City to the campus of Here East, where Bird along with other tech startups is situated.

The scooters are available to be rented for £1 and plus 20p per minute with the help of Smartphone application of Bird and will switch off automatically in case they are off the dedicated path.

Corbett while speaking with the Guardian said he is hoping that the trial would work as a starting of the change in the policy in the United Kingdom. He said, “This is the very first step towards regulation changes in the UK.”

And the trail of an e-scooter is marked as the milestone, and we are proud to make this initiative, he added.
